Read an excerpt:
"I've never done this before," she
blurted.
"You're feelin' guilty about last
night," he acknowledged, tugging her
down toward him. "Last night wasn't
just a tumble in the hay, Etta. I want
this to be so much more between us.
Times have changed and the kids will
accept me, eventually. It's you who
aren't facin' reality."
But she wasn't one of the strong and
wonderful, liberated heroines from
her books. She was plain old
Georgette Jones. In her heart, she
knew their relationship wouldn't
stand the rigors of raising three
teenagers and combining two
completely different lifestyles. She
kissed him, a sweet lingering kiss, and
backed slowly out of his arms.
He stood, fully aroused in the middle
of her bedroom. She sighed. He was
so sensitive to her feelings, such a
passionate man in every way. Why
couldn't she just relax and enjoy what
he had to offer?
"Come here," Colt said, in as soothing
a voice as he could command under
the circumstances. Desire filled him
as he took in her lovely form in the
morning light. He wanted her again
and he wanted to go on having her
every day for the rest of his life.
"You've gotten inside my soul, Etta."
She looked away, ignoring his
passionate plea.
He took her hand and rubbed his
thumb in little circles on her palm. "I
can see doubtful thoughts running
through your head; you're so easy to
read. But I'm not about to let you run
off now. Not before I make a damn
good effort to convince you to stay."
Her tousled hair made her look sexy.
She was sleepy, yet provocative. She
studied him, and with a yawn tugged
her hand free to cover her sweet
mouth. "Why do you persist in this? It
can't possibly work between us, Colt.
I can see that, why can't you? I'm
going to hurt for a long, long time
because I'll never forget last night."
Tears pooled in her eyes. "Or you."
